3. Using the trail
Teachers
and others may wish to learn about slavery today and in the past, and
we have provided sites of value in the Links section of the site. In
particular the Anti-Slavery International and UNESCO sites offer considerable
support for adults and young people in gaining outline and in-depth
briefings.
The trail provides
many examples of the cruelty involved in the slave trade and teachers
will need to be sensitive to different children's and young people's
feelings. Readers of the slave trail may need time to explore and
discuss their feelings when faced with some challenging and powerful
accounts, images and concepts. Misconceptions about the nature of slavery
and the slave trade may arise and teachers need to consider how these
will be addressed.
