A Note on Literacy
The site uses several
seventeenth and eighteenth century historical sources.
These were created before spelling was standardised, and you might wish
to point out to young people the different punctuation, spelling and
styles of writing within the documents.
At times it might
be helpful to pair less able readers with the more able in order to
read more challenging documents.
Children and others
can place their cursor over on terms in red, which may be unfamiliar
vocabulary, in order to access document glossary. These terms are also
available as a complete glossary section, which can be accessed by clicking
the link at the top of each page.
